Church Shootings and Security

Thought this article was an interesting take on security related to the church shootings this week. A clip of it is below, I also appreciated how Perry reacted to the incident:
"There was chaos," Assam said, as parishioners ran away."I saw him coming through the doors" and took cover, Assam said. "I came out of cover and identified myself and engaged him and took him down."Assam had several years of experience in law enforcement and is licensed to carry a weapon.

She attends one of the morning services and then volunteers as a guard during another service."I give credit to God," Assam said. "God was with me. I didn't think for a minute to run away."
Christianity Today mentions how Saddleback handles this, too. These are GREAT guys, and Sunday they were more serious than I've ever seen them. Good article here, too.

I have a really serious question and I welcome answers. There is a local music scene message board where I live that has become very popular for posting and talking about current events. Of course this one has come up. A lot of non-believers and believers on the forum are having a hard time understanding why the guard thinks it is ok to kill the shooter, but not ok for the shooter to kill others. This has become a moral issue topic that I would like to shed some light on from a biblical standpoint. Can anyone offer up some verses or opinions that could be of use? If so, email me at winston238@gmail.com

Just what I thought....no emails or responses...the security guard gives God the credit for killing the shooter....but I doubt God's own son would have pulled the trigger.

Don't you think that in self defense and in the defense of others it is totally acceptable?

I am both a cop and a Christian (and even lead a ministry for officers). Look, our authority as peace officers comes from God as laid out in Romans 13. Moreover, the commandment is "Thou shall not murder" ("kill" is an incorrect translation). We are CALLED to protect others and God used Jeanne to save others. Nuf said!
