Come to Church for a Free Song

Danny and I were chatting this week over lunch about taking the programming of the high school ministry to the next level. We added to his solid program a nice video from YouTube that supports the point of the night and had one other random idea - how about giving away 1,000 songs on iTunes?

The weekend is on "reach" or evangelism, and I had made a parallel earlier to how iTunes is extending it's reach with the Starbucks connection - buy a coffee get a song. Now, our students eat and sleep iPods and frappachinos, so it seemed to make sense to me.

Well, 25 minutes later, Danny has scored 1,000 free songs this week on iTunes for us to giveaway. This weekend should have one of those "I can't believe they did that at church moments" and hopefully they'll bring a friend next week (if they got the point).

Here is the dialog I heard after service outside the High School tent...

"Dude, I got Dave Matthews! Who'd you get?"

"Greyboy? Who's that?"

"I don't know, but he looks cool"

Sounds like a huge hit!

Holy smokes, how did you do that? What a fantastic idea! I'd love to be able to score some songs to use for my youth group as incentives. Are you allowed to share how this was made possible? :) Inquiring minds wanna know!!!

Hey Josh. This was a great idea and inspired me to pull off our own version of this. If you have a minute check out my blog jodyearley.com to read our conceptual idea. Later.
