The Thanksgiving Spirit

My West Texas has a new article this weekend about a youth group that is capturing the Thanksgiving spirit:
Thanksgiving is more than feasting on a tasty turkey dinner and enjoying family, friends and loved ones. It is really a time "to show that all of us are a family and that we just need to help each other," 15-year-old Zack Baud said.

"Just look around. The world's about 'I'm going to save my butt if it costs you yours.' You should think about everyone before yourself. You should save someone else's butt at the cost of your own," he said. Thanksgiving is about being thankful for each other and being thankful for the opportunity to help each other, he added.

Baud is part of a Greenwood Baptist youth group that, along with others, volunteered Saturday to assemble Thanksgiving food boxes for clients of Helping Hands of Midland.

The youth group first volunteered for the non-profit organization last month, when they performed various tasks including cleaning the backyard and sorting through donations, initially as a monthly service project, said Mary Hardin, executive director of Helping Hands.
