Book Review: When The Game is Over It All Goes Back in the Box

Just finished up reading John Ortberg's latest book - When The Game is Over It All Goes Back in the Box. It comes out in about a week and it is really fantastic. I was going to write down some of my learnings from the book or a few notable quotes, but I don't want to spoil it for you - this is a must read. Every page is full of laughs and tremendous insight. What a great storyteller and writer.

I don't know if it's me hitting a mid-life crisis (I'm only 32!) or if I just really need this message right now (I have 4 young children, married 11 years). Of course, I've heard the audio version of the book via John himself 3 times this past week - live at Saddleback, once on my staff iPod I downloaded just to deepen the impact, and a 3rd during the San Clemente replay. Maybe I'm just tender toward it ... or God's REALLY trying to tell me something. Ha!

This is a fantasic book - everyone at any stage of life should read it, quite honestly. It is brilliant, just a great reminder of the "most importants" in life and the fallacy of what some live for. I needed this reminder, my family needed this reminder, my marriage needed this reminder.

Read. This. Book.

You keep telling us about how awesome this talk is, but we (non-Californians) can't log onto Saddleback’s webpage. Is there any other way we can listen to it?

Hmmm ... you could always sign up for an account at Saddleback, I suppose? If you want to email me, I'm sure I direct you somewhere else, too.
