Book Review: What Every Parent Needs to Know About Video Games

Just finished up a book that caught my eye this week - What Every Parent Needs to Know About Video Games by Richard Abanes. Now I don't consider myself an average parent, I'm very much a "gaming generation dad." That, unfortunately, means that about 2/3rds of the book was not written to me and was a bunch of information I already knew. The other problem with a book like this is that illustrations and recommendations become immediately outdated - the games and consoles used as examples are a couple generations behind, even if the principles from the book still stick.
Anyhow, the last 1/3rd is really solid advice to parents - basically suggesting that mature games are OK (just keep only mature people playing them) and that the responsibility of policing the game kids' play fall directly on mom and dad. All in all, a good book for someone unfamiliar with games, written from a position of grace. See you on Xbox Live!
