The Office - British Version

Just finished up watching the entire first 2 seasons and the special finale of The Office on DVD.

Fans of the American version of The Office are totally endebted to the UK version - even if you don't know it. About a 1/2 hour with the gang from The Slough Office and you'll instantly recognize the tone, absolutely wrong humor and painfully awkward moments. In fact, there's some moments of our show that are completely lifted from theirs - albeit translated for our different cultures just a bit.

Michael Scott is there, a British Jim and Pam are there, and while the rest of the peripheral office cast isn't nearly as developed as the US version, you know you've got to have Dwight to make it work. While the American version has it's own merits and is a fantastic show in it's own right (my favorite on TV, actually) you have to hand it to the guys on the other side of the pond for this one.

I'm just thankful it made the transition to US television intact with the same irreverent style. Having said that, I should also mention that the television standards are much more lax in England, so there's lots more cursing, and jokes are taken even further than they are here.

If you are a fan of The Office and haven't yet watched "the original" on DVD, you're missing a special treat. And the special bonus "3 years later" episode ... when David (their Michael Scott) gets redundancy (laid off), well, that's just priceless. And the resolution to their Jim and Pam is fantastic, if ours is half this good it'll be a fitting end to what is easily the best comedy on TV.

I loved the British one. It was really off color a lot of times which was a bummer, but Ricky Gervais was a SCREAM. When I heard they were doing an American version, I was all over it.

Josh - I love this one too! Have you seen "Extras?" If you like the British Office, you would love it! Ricky Gervais is in it as well and it is HILARIOUS!
